DeVarte Watson commits to Charlotte

SoC has learned that Mark Price and the Charlotte 49ers have secured their first verbal commitment for the 2017 class. JUCO Forward, DeVarte Watson (6’8 210lbs), committed to the program this evening.  He is currently at Cape Fear Community College, the same JUCO that produced current Niner Anthony Vanhook.  During the 2015-16 campaign, he posted some solid numbers, 6.5 points & 7.8 rebounds per contest.

DeVarte went to Oakbrook Prep in Spartanburg (SC) and signed with Delaware Blue Hens, never making it to campus.

We’re currently working to get in touch with DeVarte for some comments from him on his decision. That said, we were able to catch up with his JUCO Head Coach, Ryan Mantlo. Here’s what he had to say when we asked him about DeVarte and his game: “DeVarte has great days ahead of him. His frame and athleticism allow him to be very versatile. Charlotte got a great one with him and is a perfect fit what they need.”

As of now Charlotte has 3 open scholarships to fill for the 2017 class.

Stay tuned with State of Charlotte for the latest news on the recruiting trail.
